HFSA Guidelines, Position Statements, and Consensus Statements
- The Heart Failure Society of America (HFSA) and the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses (AAHFN) share a common core mission to improve outcomes of patients with heart failure. A recent report underscored the importance of increasing advocacy efforts to enable nurses to practice to the full extent of their education and training and engage in full partnership with physicians and other health professionals in redesigning health care.1 Heart failure is the fastest growing cardiovascular disorder in the U.S.
- Low health literacy compromises patient safety, quality health care, and desired health outcomes. Specifically, low health literacy is associated with decreased knowledge of one's medical condition, poor medication recall, nonadherence to treatment plans, poor self-care behaviors, compromised physical and mental health, greater risk of hospitalization, and increased mortality.
