Music Intervention for Improving Quality of Life in Heart Failure: Ready for an Audition?

      With the dramatic decrease in mortality from atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease that has occurred over the past 5 decades and the concomitant increase in life expectancy, chronic heart failure (HF) has become a disorder of epidemic proportions throughout the world.

      Despite advances in therapy, morbidity and mortality remain unacceptably high, including frequent emergency room visits and hospitalizations. In addition, functional status and quality of life (QoL) are generally poor. Thus, novel approaches to improving both “hard” and “softer” clinical outcomes are sorely needed in this rapidly expanding population.
