Background: Prognosis after pacemaker implantation for over 90 year old patients, and the influence
of complication of heart failure for such patients are unknown. Methods: We identified patients over 90 year old (n = 21) from all patients who underwent
initial pacemaker implantation in our hospital between January 2002 and December 2016
(n = 509). Results: All patients survived to discharge and developed no complication requiring re-operation.
The average survival period was 3.65 years. 3 patients (14.3%) died in a year. In
patients with heart failure, Barthel Index of 3 patients (21.4%) increased, on the
other hand 5 patients (35.7%) decreased. Conclusion: Prognosis after pacemaker implantation for over 90 year old seems tolerable. Pacemaker
implantation may improve ADL of such patients with heart failure.
