Background: To predict in-hospital mortality of acute heart failure (HF), Get With The Guidelines-Heart
Failure (GWTG-HF) risk score has been derived. We evaluated clinical impacts of GWTG-HF
risk score on long term prognosis in HF patients after hospitalization. Methods and Results: We examined GWTG-HF risk score in 1452 HF patients who admitted to our hospital,
and divided into three groups according to this score level. We followed up these
patients after discharge. Kaplan-Meier survival curve demonstrated that event rates
of all-cause death, cardiac death, non-cardiac death, and cardiovascular event including
worsening HF and cardiac death were higher as the severity of GWTG-HF risk score increased
(P < .01, Figure). Conclusions: GWTG-HF risk score is useful for prognostic prediction in HF patients in chronic
phase as well as acute phase.
