Different Prognostic Impact of Residual Stenosis after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention by Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction in Patients with Heart Failure

Background: It remains to be elucidated whether the prognostic impact of residual stenosis (RS ≧ 75%) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is influenced by left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) in patients with heart failure (HF). Methods and Results: In this study, we examined 1,307 stage C/D HF patients with a history of PCI [69.5+-11(SD) years, M/F; 851/456] in our CHART-2 Study. Among them, 65.1% had RS, and all-cause mortality of patients with RS was significantly higher as compared with those without it (P < .01). Furthermore, when dividing all subjects into 3 groups by LVEF, RS was significantly associated with higher all-cause mortality in patients with EF ≧ 50% (P = .005) and EF40-50% (P = .008), but not in those with EF<40% (P = .619) (Figure). Conclusion: These results indicate that the prognostic impact of RS varies by LVEF.
